After a day spent reaching a summit, the next day of your vacation can look a little different. For this Wednesday, we included a visit to the TAUERN SPA in Zell am See-Kaprun in our itinerary. It provided a quieter side to our holiday, nestled between our mountain treks and other planned excursions.

Not every day of your vacation needs to be a "high point."

The day before, our journey took us all the way to the summit cross of the Schönleitenspitze. Today, the program changed. A visit to a thermal spa shifts the focus compared to a hike: you don’t need to reach a mountain summit to give the day a sense of purpose or value.

Such a change of pace is particularly appealing when interspersed between various excursions. After all, a trip doesn’t become diverse simply by adding a new sightseeing attraction every single day; sometimes, variety comes from allowing yourself to shift to a different rhythm.

A day between two very different aquatic worlds

In our travel chronicle, Wednesday serves as a connecting link. On Monday, we visited the Jungfernsprung waterfall. Thursday would bring the Kaprun reservoirs, and Friday, the Krimml Waterfalls. Water appears time and again throughout these days—yet each time, it plays a different role.

For a family vacation, this makes for a wonderful mix. Taking in nature, being out and about, and—in between—a day at a thermal spa: individual days don’t have to look the same for them to weave together into a cohesive holiday story.

Space for quieter memories

In this series, the grand vistas—a stadium, the mountains, a waterfall—often take center stage. A day at a thermal spa is just as much a part of the experience. It represents the opportunity to alternate between different types of encounters while on vacation.

The next day, our gaze turned outward and upward once again. Before us lay the Kaprun reservoirs—featuring a water color that looks almost unreal in our photos.

Tips for your visit to the TAUERN SPA

  • Choose the right ticket. The water world, sauna facilities, and certain hotel spa areas are distinct offerings. Before booking, check exactly which areas are included in your chosen ticket.
  • Plan carefully when visiting with children. The official FAQ mentions "Kidstein," a spa area for children within the water world. Be sure to check age restrictions and access rules for other spa areas in advance.
  • Pack swimwear and dry clothing separately. Bringing a bag for wet items, pool footwear, and an extra towel will make your visit more convenient. Check the specific offer to see whether rental items (like towels or robes) are included or available for an additional fee.
  • Balance swimming, dining, and relaxation. Don’t judge the day solely by the number of pools or amenities available. Especially when visiting with children, breaks are an essential part of the experience.
  • Check current operating status before you head out. Verify opening hours, potential maintenance work, and ticket availability directly with the operator.
