Some vacation days can be summed up in a single image. This Sunday is not one of them. It begins at the Vienna Prater, leads through a wax museum, and takes us onto the Ferris wheel. Later, there are colorful market strolls—and by evening, Prague lies spread out beneath us.
Between the first scene and the last, almost everything changes: the backdrop, the colors, and the perspective. This is precisely what turns this day into a little journey of its own. We spent this Sunday together, traveling from the Prater through Excalibur City and on to Prague. In this way, these very different stops became shared vacation memories.

A meeting with celebrities—who happen to be exceptionally patient photo subjects.
The wax museum offered plenty of opportunities for souvenir photos. Surrounded by familiar faces, we moved from one setting to the next—ranging from culture and history to sports, music, or staged scenes that invite you to step right into the picture.

A playful photo opportunity among the figures in the wax museum.
The figures remain perfectly still while being photographed, while we are free to change our own poses. This small distinction transforms a museum visit into a unique kind of photo album: it’s not just about looking—it’s about placing yourself right into the scene.
One particularly unusual group photo was taken in a setting featuring formal attire. Shots like these don’t need to reflect our everyday lives; they can simply exist as a playful moment from our vacation.

Then, the gaze turns outward and upward.
After so many indoor settings, the perspective opens up from the Ferris wheel. Looking out from the gondola, we see rooftops and attractions; nearby, the framework and the red carriages come into view.

From the gondola, a view over the Prater unfolds.
At times, the vista fills the entire field of vision; at other moments, the metal framework and its struts take center stage. This, too, is a wonderful part of the day: not only does the view of the city shift, but the iconic Ferris wheel itself reveals different facets when seen up close.

The framework and the red gondolas come into focus at close range.
Colorful passageways between two cities
Following Vienna, there is a vibrant stopover in Excalibur City: densely packed market aisles, signs, games, and a profusion of colors. After the sweeping view over Vienna, the surroundings become more confined and intricate. Everywhere you look, something catches the eye.

These images serve as a transition between the day’s two major cityscapes. From the expansive view in Vienna, we find ourselves plunged into a colorful, bustling jumble. And yet, this is not the final change of scene for this Sunday.
Prague gets the final word
In the evening, we stand together before a panorama of Prague. Behind us lie the Vltava River, rooftops, and bridges. The family photo bridges the grand cityscape with the very thing that holds our journey together: the people who appear, time and again, throughout these pictures.

Then, the light begins to dim. The sky turns a deep shade of blue, while the city below glows. After a series of ever-changing impressions, the sequence of images concludes with a sweeping, expansive view.

As evening approaches, the light over the rooftops of Prague shifts.
It is a fitting conclusion to this Sunday: this morning, standing right beside wax figures; later, a turn on the Ferris wheel; and this evening, high above a different city. Here, having more than one subject was not merely possible—it was inevitable.
And the journey has not yet been fully recounted: The next day, near Kleinwelka, we encounter giant creatures from a much more ancient world—a prehistoric finale to our journey.

Tips for your own day out in the city
- It’s better to focus on a few key highlights than to try and replicate our entire itinerary. Visits to the Prater, intermediate stops, and Prague can be spread out over several days. What works for one family might not be the right pace for another.
- Plan each stop in Vienna separately. For Madame Tussauds Vienna and the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel each location, check ticket options, opening hours, and any available combination deals.
- Factor in travel time and potential wait times. When moving between cities, allow extra time for the journey and breaks; avoid booking several tight appointments in a row.
- Choose markets and recreational activities carefully. For intermediate stops, decide in advance which areas you want to visit and what the associated costs will be. Save the exact location of your chosen destination in your GPS.
- Arrive early enough to enjoy an evening view of Prague. Decide on your vantage point and the route back beforehand. If you want to experience both daylight and the evening atmosphere, be sure to leave some unscheduled time.
- Stay together while taking photos. At viewpoints, choose a secure spot and be considerate of other visitors.
