Following our stopover at the Allianz Arena, the change in scenery could hardly have been more dramatic. On Monday, instead of grandstands and a stadium roof, we were suddenly faced with forest, steep rock faces, and a waterfall. The Jungfernsprung earned its own special chapter in our vacation story—making it clear that the mountains, too, now have a tale to tell.

A waterfall needs no grand announcement
A bright stream of water cascades down the rock face, surrounded by lush, vibrant greenery. Trees frame the view, while clouds drift over the mountains above.
We took a photo together in front of the wooden railing, with the waterfall in the background. It’s a classic vacation snapshot: the view is part of it, but it only truly becomes *our* memory once we’re in the frame. The water here isn’t just decoration—it brings a sense of movement to the entire setting.

Between railings, forest, and valley views
The path winds along the hillside, with wooden railings in several places. At times, your gaze is drawn to the waterfall; at others, it opens up through the trees toward the valley. Between the path ahead and the water beyond the railing, there is always something new to discover.
It’s precisely these shifts that make the excursion so appealing. You aren’t just standing in front of a single, static photo opportunity—even a few steps change the composition: more forest, more rock, more water, or a glimpse of the landscape beyond.

*From the path, the view opens up through the trees into the valley.*
An information board describes the "Jungfernsprung" (Maiden’s Leap) as a "place of power." The waterfall’s name is tied to a local legend. We didn’t need to invent an elaborate story of our own—the setting itself provided more than enough. The sign simply adds another layer of narrative to the excursion.
A perfect start to our vacation
The day before, we had been in a stadium, looking at rows of red seats and trophies. Now, the landscape itself was the grand spectacle. For us, that contrast is what makes a trip so engaging: no two days have to be the same.

The Jungfernsprung was a fitting beginning to our days in the mountains. And while the water here drew the gaze upward, another destination awaited further up in the next chapter: the summit cross of the Schönleitenspitze.

Tips for your visit to the Jungfernsprung
- Take your time to look around. The National Park features a circular trail of about two kilometers, which takes roughly an hour to complete. Allow extra time if you are visiting with children, or if you plan to take photos or breaks; these estimates are not based on our family’s actual timing.
- Pack sturdy footwear. Choose shoes with good tread for the path to the waterfall, and watch out for damp or slippery spots.
- Bring a lightweight rain jacket. Near a waterfall, spray can create damp conditions even when it isn’t raining. Keep your phone and camera stowed away safely when not in use.
- Take photos only in designated, secure areas. Use the established viewpoints, and never climb over railings or barriers to get a shot.
- Learn the story behind it. The information board explains the origin of the site's name—a great opportunity to share the legend behind the waterfall with children.
